The Levels field is used in conjunction with the Expand field. This field defines how many branches deep to expand the Summary Item for the row.
If the Expand field is not set to either “Above” or “Below” (indicating the location to the Expanded row any subordinate items will appear) any value set in the Levels field will be ignored.
Selecting either “Above” or “Below” in the Expand field will set the Level field value to 1 by default. You can define the Levels field to expand to the specific branch level comprised by those subordinate row items. For example:
Summary Level (Level = 0)
Subordinate item (Level = 1)
Subordinate item (Level = 2)
This could correspond to the following:
Department |
|
|
Level = 0
|
|
Sales Marketing Advertising
|
|
Level = 1 |
|
|
Online Advertising Print Advertising Television Advertising |
Level = 2 |
Therefore, setting the Level field to 2 would show the items at that comprise elements at level:
Department |
YTD Total |
Sales |
$5000 |
Marketing |
$450 |
Advertising |
$300 |
Online Advertising |
$150 |
Print Advertising |
$50 |
Television Advertising |
$100 |
A value of 0 meands go to the bottom of the tree no matter how many levels there are. In addition, if either “Above” or “Below” is not set in the Expand field, the row will not be expanded and no summary items will appear.
Note: If the Line Expansion Fields checkbox is not checked on the context ribbon, this field will not appear in the Line Definition workspace.
